about

With several impressive releases already under its belt, including Heist, NC-17, Transforma and AL/SO, Boomslang Recordings is on the verge of unleashing yet more sonic weapons on its broad audience. The imprint, which has been steadily releasing since late 2019, brings back Dropset into the lineup, with the US based label illustrating why their back catalog has done some of the most damage on the dancefloor. This EP featuring Dropset continues to push the boundaries of drum & bass as Boomslang continues the label's growing popularity inside the darker waters of drum & bass with 'Counterpart / Mind Structure'.

Growing up with classic rock, hard rock and hip hop, Dropset segwayed into electronic music when he heard the Disco Deathrace mixtape by DJ Keoki in 2000, aged just 13. Then when he stumbled across DJ Dara at a party two years later, his love for dnb started and there was no turning back. He would immerse himself in the sounds of Ram Trilogy, Ed Rush, Optical, Bad Company, Loxy, Ink, C4C and all of those legends that formed our music the way it is today. Until he figured he needed to not just play it, but to make it. And so, Pittsburgh born and bred neuro prodigy had at it for quite some time and the results are starting to stack up considerably in his favor. After having circled around the American usual suspects Divination and Abducted, he's finally graduated towards Europe, first with releases on Close 2 Death and C4C and then getting onto tunes on ProtoCode and Korsakov Music.

'Counterpart', the first of the two tracks, sets you off on a journey into a parallel dimension as it thumps and creeps its way into an alluring build up of sound. As it drops, you are catapulted into a full force of high energy basslines and synth accompanied by immaculate drums that pump the Dropset-style neuro that is a pure dancefloor smasher. The next tune is 'Brain Structure', which comes on dark and ominous that thrusts into a drumstep beat gearing you for what's to come. Pure neuro madness! Hard nosed and gritty, this heavy tune hits strong with obvious techno feels that alternates between dnb and drumstep and is sure to make the crowd go bonkers. This release is a marvelous follow up to an already impressive 2022 line up displaying that Boomslang has no signs of slowing down one bit.
